Setting up a Penny Brohn Cancer Care Spirit of Life fund is a positive and meaningful way to celebrate the people, the moments and special times in life. A fund can be established to celebrate the life of a loved one, but equally as a way to make special occasions such as birthdays, weddings and anniversaries, extra special by requesting donations instead of gifts.
By choosing to set up a Spirit of Life Fund you will be making a very personal and significant difference, by helping us to continue to provide life-changing complementary cancer care for people who have been diagnosed with cancer and the friends, family and loved ones who are supporting them.
Setting up your fund:
You can set-up your fund at anytime and friends, family and colleagues can contribute to it however and whenever they want, whether that is making a donation, taking part in a sponsored challenge or holding their own fundraising event.
Online:
An online fund is quick and easy to set-up. Working with our partner site Bmycharity.com, you can create your own personalised web page and tailor it with photos and messages before sending the page link out to all your friends and family.
On your page you can:
- Include a photo and a message which you can update as often as you like
- Encourage friends and family to visit your dedicated page and donate securely online from anywhere in the world
- Keep track of all donations made, your fund total and enjoy reading personal messages from friends and family
- Allow people to set-up their own fundraising pages for events that they are doing in support of your Spirit of Life fund
To set-up your online fund please email fundraising@pennybrohn.org or call 01275 370 073 to register your interest in a Spirit of Life fund.
We will then send you your unique fund code, Set up Guide and the link to our Spirit of Life Funds website where you then create your page.
Request a pack:
Your fund can also be created by requesting a Spirit of Life Pack.
Inside you will find information, guidance and ideas about how you can grow your fund, as well as announcement cards for you to send out to your family and friends to tell them all about your fund.
Your friends, family and colleagues can donate to your fund by:
- Sending a cheque made payable to Penny Brohn Cancer Care and a cover letter detailing whose fund they are supporting to: Fundraising, Penny Brohn Cancer Care, Chapel Pill Lane, Pill, Bristol, BS20 0HH
- Making a secure donation by telephone with a credit or debit card by calling 01275 370 073
We will track and record every donation made to your fund using your unique code, so you can see just how much is being contributed and how your fund is growing. We here to support you every step of the way, so contact us at anytime to get an update on your fund total or for any further help you may need.

Helen’s Fund:
Mike and Vivienne Merchant established a Spirit of Life Fund in memory of their daughter Helen.
Mike said:
“Helen was just 20 years old, and in her second year at Bath University when her malignant melanoma was diagnosed. From the start, she was determined that she would fight her illness and live her life to the full while doing so. Through the ups and downs of her treatment she relished the range of support she found at the Centre, which seemed to give her renewed optimism and zest. During the 41⁄2 years that Helen fought her cancer she: finished her degree (a 2:1!), began a career at AXA in Bristol, met her husband and married, found her faith and continued to inspire and motivate her many, many friends. Penny Brohn Cancer Care played a huge part in helping Helen fulfil all of her life goals. We are all eternally grateful for the support, encouragement
and guidance that the Charity gave to Helen, which made her last few years with us so rich and full and the funds raised at Helen’s party (her funeral) are just a small way of saying thank you.”
